Today we’re excited to introduce the Fritz AI Dataset Generator, a new component of Fritz AI Studio, designed to break down a major barrier between developers and the creation of incredible machine learning-powered mobile applications.
That barrier is data acquisition. Despite advances in neural network architectures and their optimizations for mobile deployment, there often isn’t enough available high-quality data on which to train those models.
This is mobile machine learning’s cold start problem. The costs of data acquisition (both in terms of money and time) are prohibitive, and they keep many from even starting their projects.
We’re committed to helping developers solve this problem, and we believe that the Fritz AI Dataset Generator is an important first step in this process.

What the Dataset Generator Is?
The Dataset Generator builds a bridge for mobile developers and machine learning engineers by creating datasets programmatically — a process also known as synthetic data generation.
While other synthetic data platforms focus on large-scale, server-side tasks and use cases, the Fritz AI Dataset Generator targets mobile compatibility. Specifically, the Generator produces data that more closely matches what mobile-deployed models will see, which leads to better performance on-device.
This kind of mobile-focused data generation will help solve one of the primary hurdles developers and ML teams face when trying to deploy models to mobile: a lack of image assets needed to build datasets for unique products, brands, human poses, and more.
Currently, the Dataset Generator can create accurately-labeled, ready-to-train datasets for 2D pose estimation and object detection. But we plan to support more machine learning tasks in the future, so stay tuned.
How the Dataset Generator works
The Fritz AI Dataset Generator enables developers and engineers to:
- Easily upload and manually label a set of seed images.
- Automatically apply image augmentation techniques that are specifically targeted for mobile devices.
- Generate ready-to-train datasets of thousands of images with accurately-labeled keypoints or bounding boxes — in a matter of minutes.
- Manage, edit, and add image datasets to prepare them for model training.
